Coach Chevelle Brown is a visionary educator, strategist, and community leader who transforms the game of chess into a powerful tool for academic success and life readiness. As the founder and CEO of I Teach Chess, a Detroit-based educational company, she partners with schools and community organizations to deliver evidence-based chess instruction that sharpens focus, cultivates critical thinking, and fosters leadership in youth.
With a deep belief that chess mirrors life, Coach Brown trains students not only to think ahead but also to think critically. Her programs have guided thousands of students to apply the skills learned in chess beyond the classroom, boosting test scores, improving behavior, and building confidence.
Looking ahead, she is developing a chess-themed café and the Detroit Chess Club & Scholastic Center. In this community hub, strategy, scholarship, and social connection will converge to inspire the next generation of champions.
